Further Education

Criteria

If you have a degree level qualification or the equivalent level qualification (level 6 on the education framework), you may apply for a grant to help with your further education.  For us to consider your application, you must fulfil the following essential criteria:

  1. You must already have completed at least one term on the course for which you are applying to us for financial assistance
  2. You must already have funding in place. We will only consider helping you if your planned funding has broken down due to circumstances beyond your control after your course has started.

You must also fulfil the following criteria for those people who have a degree level qualification:

  1. Are aged over 18 years
  2. Are resident in the UK
  3. Have applied to your own occupational fund for assistance in the first instance (if applicable)
  4. Have less than £6,000 in savings if you are under pension credit age and less than £10,000 if over pension credit age.
  5. Have claimed, or are in the process of claiming, all benefits to which you are entitled.

How we help:

We may be able to help students with small grants, usually between £300 and £500.  We can contribute towards:

  • Course fees
  • other related course expenses such as stationery, text books, production of thesis
  • course travel expenses in some circumstances, for example work or research placements
  • general living expenses

We advise students to seek additional funding from other sources.

We do not help with:

  • student sponsorships
  • study abroad
  • ordination courses
  • conversion courses
  • intercalated years or medical elective periods
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) for university entrants, ORE (Overseas Registration Exam) for dental practitioners, or PLAB test (Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board) for overseas doctors
